This Hawaiian Sea Turtle backsplash medallion displays a group of sea turtles swimming together in the ocean. I cut this background tile so that it has a wavy appearance reminiscent of the turtles' Hawaiian ocean home. The tile used for this medallion is individually selected, brushed travertine tiles having gray, brown and beige, as well as off-white colors.

Since this piece will be attached to Kerdi-Board, it is only recommended for installation on walls or as a backsplash. Contact me to inquire about having it made attached to mesh so that it may be installed on a floor. This medallion is ungrouted and comes attached to 1/2" thick Kerdi board. The travertine tile used is 1/2" thick as well, making the completed piece 1" thick. The Kerdi board your medallion will be attached to will be 2" taller than the medallion itself, with a 1 inch tall "tab" along both the top and bottom of the medallion allowing your installer to secure the medallion to the studs / wall using screws. Construction adhesive (i.e. Liquid Nails) may also be used to attach medallion to the studs / wall. If your installer does not want / need this "tab", he or she can easily remove it or you may request this at checkout by leaving a note for me.

While it may be ready sooner, please note the estimated Lead Time (in the information bar near the top of this page) for your custom made medallion to be crafted and made ready for shipping. Q: Love this Turtle! If we wanted to go up in size, what would time frame be for shipping? A: Aloha Lora, As of today, February 19, 2021, I could have any Hawaiian Sea Turtle travertine medallion, up to 30" x 24" in size, ready to ship out within 4 weeks. If you are interested in an even larger medallion, let me know the size and I will give you an estimate of how soon I could have it ready to ship. Thank you! Tracy

Q: Can the sea turtle tile be used in a shower? A: Yes, travertine tile can be used in a shower. Since this particular medallion will come attached to Kerdi-Board, it should only be installed on walls or vertical surfaces, not for flooring. If you are interested in this same medallion for installation on the floor of a shower, I can custom make it attached it to mesh. Thank you, Tracy

The Crafting Process

I make each medallion sold on my website using a variety of manual and power tools. I start with the rough cutting of the fleur de lis, star or turtle. Next I grind smooth the edges till it is just right. I move outward from there until every piece is ready. Your medallion is then attached to mesh (or occasionally a backer board), carefully packaged, and shipped to you, ready for installation.
